Recent government statistics show that drugs and alcohol become more
prevalent in the workplace. One in three men and one in five women drink
over the recommended limit, while nearly one-third of workers under 30 have
taken drugs in the past 12 months. The drug and alcohol abuse can pose a
real risk to the health and safety of the abuser as well as fellow workers,
it reduces productivity and destroys teamwork. That is why it is essential
for the employer to introduce and maintain effective drug and alcohol test
policies.
Our clinic offers a complete service for:

OG UK (OIL & GAS) AND OFFSHORE MEDICALS
Our clinic provides the medical assessment that is required by the Oil
& Gas industry to ensure that an individual is fit to work in the Oil
& Gas sector. In addition to standard testing, our highly trained and
experienced Doctor can carry out additional testing if required.
The OGUK Medical is valid for two years and consists of the following:
- Completion of Patient Questionnaire
- Urinalysis – routine urine test with immediate result
- BMI – measurement of height, weight and calculation of Body Mass Index
- Near, Distance and Colour Vision Test
- Pulse and Blood Pressure Measurement
- Lung Function Test (peak flow)
- Audiogram (hearing test)
- Consultation with an OGUK Doctor

WORKING AT HEIGHT MEDICALS
People who work at heights or access/climb to heights such as Industrial
Abseilers, Telecommunication Engineers and more, may be required to undergo
the Working at Height Medical to check their fitness.
The Medical is carried out by a qualified Doctor and comprises of:
- Completion of Patient Questionnaire
- Urinalysis – routine urine test with immediate result
- BMI – measurement of height, weight and calculation of Body Mass Index
- Near, Distance, Peripheral and Colour Vision Test
- Pulse and Blood Pressure Measurement
- Lung Function Test (peak flow)
- Audiogram (hearing test)
- Waist and Shoulder Measurement
- Musculoskeletal Assessment (examines if an individual has good mobility, power and strength)
- Drug and Alcohol Test
- Chester Step Test or other equivalent test to assess aerobic capacity
- Cholesterol Test (for those over age 50)
- Consultation with an Occupational Health Professional
Age < 40 years - three yearly
Age 41- 50 years - two yearly

CONFINED SPACE MEDICALS
Confined space is one that is both enclosed or largely enclosed and which
constitutes a foreseeable risk to workers of fire, explosion, loss of
consciousness or drowning. While it is not a legal requirement to have a
Confined Space Medical, it is a good practise to have one if you or your
staff are likely to be working in this environment. The assessment will
check if the person in question does not have any medical condition which
could expose them to a higher degree of risk or result in injury to
themselves or others while in confined spaces, for example, heart
condition, epilepsy etc.
The Confined Space Medical we offer in our clinic comprises of:
- Completion of Patient Questionnaire including confined space related questions
- Urinalysis – routine urine test with immediate result
- BMI – measurement of height, weight and calculation of Body Mass Index
- Near and Distance Vision Test
- Pulse and Blood Pressure Measurement
- Lung Function Test (peak flow)
- Audiogram (hearing test)
- Musculoskeletal Assessment (examines if an individual has good mobility, power and strength)
- Sniff/ Smell Test- to see if individual can distinguish different types of odours.

WELLBEING & LIFESTYLE
Wellness and lifestyle assessment is a confidential voluntary health screen
conducted by our experienced Doctor. It will consist of a comprehensive
medical assessment including advice on lifestyle and diet. The purpose of
the screen is to reassure employees that they are in good health or that
early action can solve their health problems and prevent them from being
absent with long term sickness.
In our clinic we offer the following screens:
- Well Man Profile
- Well Woman Profile
- Senior Female Profile
- Senior Man Profile
- Customized Health Screen

DRIVERS MEDICALS
All HGV (heavy goods vehicle) and PCV (bus or coach) drivers are required to undergo medical assessments when:
- They apply for provisional Category C1 (7.5t), C (rigid) or D1 (minibus), D (bus) licence
- They turn 45 they need to do another medical followed by one every 5 years after that
- They turn 65 they need to do a medical every year
Our Doctor will examine you in accordance with the requirements of the relevant D4 Medical Form and the examination will consist of:
- Pulse and Blood Pressure Measurement
- Vision Test - the first before and the second after you put on driving glasses
- Urinalysis – routine urine test with immediate result
- Completion of relevant parts of the D4 Form (the Doctor will list any medication you are currently taking and ask questions about you medical history)

Driving licence
If you wear glasses or contact lenses please bring these with you along with your latest prescription (do not wear contact lenses as these will have to be removed for the eye test)
A small urine sample
Details of your current General Practitioner (GP), all medications you have been prescribed and any over the counter medications you may be taking. Any hospital letters or details of hospital consultants who are treating you.
The medical form requires medical information from you in detail so please bring as much information as possible if the form is to be completed.

HEALTH SURVEILANCE
Health surveillance is a system of ongoing health checks. These health checks may be required by law for employees who are exposed to noise or vibration, ionizing radiation, solvents, fumes, dusts, biological agents and other substances hazardous to health. In our clinic we offer a wide range of health assessments of one or more aspects of an employee's health, for example, lung function or skin condition. All tests, questionnaires and examinations are interpreted by our Occupational Physician.
